“While there are advocates for prolonged programs for active rehabilitation, the reality in most countries seems to be that many rehabilitationists are reluctant to accept these patients until they are showing some signs of recovery and are therefore expected to benefit from rehabilitation. As a result most such patients either remain for long periods in acute care settings or are transferred after a few weeks to nursing homes. Because of this, some believe that many vegetative patients do not reach their full potential for recovery”. (Jennett, 1997: 8).
