High-Resolution Photoemission in Low Dimensional Conductors

  • Chapter
Photo-Excited Processes, Diagnostics and Applications

Abstract

This chapter describes how strongly correlated quasi one-dimensional conductors are investigated by Angle Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy (ARPES). Low dimensional Peierls conductors deviate from the usual Fermi liquid picture and display the signatures of strongly renormalized carriers. A coherent interpretation of the spectroscopic results can be developed in the framework of the strong coupling electron-phonon theory. This interpretation, based on a polaronic approach, justifies several otherwise unexplainable features of the ARPES lineshapes.
