Abstract
In this chapter the main features of photorefractivity in liquid crystals are reviewed. Both experimental results and theoretical models are discussed, pointing out the complexity of the phenomenon when it occurs in these materials due to the collective character of the molecular reorientation responsible for light-induced refractive index modulation.
