Abstract
Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) can be described in Jones space, Stokes space, or energy space. The three representations are compared and it is shown that equivalent information required for the prediction of the transmission eye-diagram is contained in the Jones space and energy space descriptions. Isotropic dispersion is suppressed in the Stokes space formulation.
