Abstract

A computerized visual interactive modeling system is characterized by its modeling paradigm which determines the set of modehng elements, the possible relations, and the computational possibilities. Traditional visual interactive modeling systems are tailored only to specific aspects of problem solving, rather than looking at the whole problem solving and modeling process. The 2002 survey on decision analysis software systems, reported on by D.T. Maxwell in OR/MS Today finds that of the 28 packages that were subject to the study, there was about an even distribution of packages focusing on either the elicitation and analysis of multi-criteria functions or the ehcitation and analysis of uncertainties. Only one package indicated to support the entire spectrum of graphical elicitation, computation, and solution display.
