Abstract

In this section we develop results for planar location problems that seem to be both of theoretical and practical importance: Block norms (i.e., polyhedral norms, or symmetric polyhedral gauges) are used to evaluate distances, and barriers are introduced that restrict the available area for locating facilities and cannot be crossed in going from one facility to some other. The results discussed in this chapter were also published in Hamacher and Klamroth (2000).
