Summary
The LMA is a revolutionary airway device. Its use in anesthesiology has become routine. The LMA is more than an alternative to the oral airway. It is used to assist in the management of complex airway problems and its place in the ASA Difficult Airway Algorithm is firmly established. Future research will define new roles and establish extended safety parameters for the LMA in all fields of airway management.
