Because acute appendicitis is a common condition, laparoscopic appendectomy has become a commonly performed procedure. It offers the surgeon a minimally invasive method of removing the appendix and offers the patient certain advantages over open appendectomy. It is our preferred method of appendectomy, especially in young females and in obese patients, regardless of age or sex.
