Abstract
For eighty years, researchers have investigated the relation between grades and student evaluations of teaching. Nearly all studies conducted have resulted in reports of a positive correlation between these variables, but debate continues over the cause of this association. This chapter reviews past studies and experiments that have probed this relationship and summarizes several of the more common explanations for it.
