Abstract

An analogue system is the suitable interconnection of basic cells and passive components. In turn, the basic cells, namely operational amplifiers and comparators, may be assumed to be a suitable innterconnection of basic building blocks. These blocks are simple gain stages, differential pairs, differential to single ended convertors, voltage and current references, etc. Using this hierarchical view, it becomes easier to analyse and understand the features and performance of complex basic cells. However, one should also acquire prior knowledge of the operation and limits of the basic building blocks that are used as elements of the cell. In this Chapter their operation will be analysed and their features studied together with their limitations.
