Summary
This chapter classified, defined and discussed the various aspects of smart antenna systems. The main smart antenna techniques, beamforming, transmit-and receive diversity, sectorization and switched beamforimg, were discussed in detail. Beamforming algorithms have been discussed with emphasis on algorithms applicable to CDMA. In the following chapters, the background developed up to now will be used for performance analysis (Chapter 6), multiuser detection (Chapter 7) and space-time coding (Chapter 8).
