Abstract
The performance analysis of handoff and radio resource management algorithms consists of two aspects, the performance metrics (or performance measures) and performance evaluation mechanisms. The performance metrics quantify the performance of algorithms. The evaluation mechanisms provide a means to collect statistics of performance metrics. Several important performance metrics are defined. Three major handoff evaluation mechanisms, analytical, simulation, and emulation, are briefly discussed. Basic constituents of simulation mechanisms for handoff are explained. Handoff simulation models used and developed for this research are described. Data traffic models that allow analysis of data systems are summarized. Simulation framework for the analysis of radio resource management is outlined.
