Abstract
In this chapter, we present the problem of the initial preparation of science teachers in Italy. We describe prospective changes both for the preparation of primary school and secondary school teachers and compare with the present situation. We draw attention, in particular, to the preparation of physics teachers as an example of science teacher preparation. Here we report the complete path of their studies (undergraduate and graduate) and discuss the main features that graduate courses should have to prepare effectively preservice teachers for their future work.
