Conclusions

We discussed event handlers, callbacks, and action procedures; gave examples of their use; and made comparisons. We also discussed work procedures, timeouts, and file input and animation applications (for the first two topics) and building graphical front ends (for the third topic). Finally we discussed text entry.

Simple X programs may ignore most of these issues because events are dealt through the widget callbacks. On the other hand material in Chap. 4 is essential for programs with mixed input (both file and user) or those that do animation.
