Abstract

We present a new method for optimizing the rate and direction of fibers at each point in a composite structure for minimizing the compliance of the loaded structure. We give anexistence theorem and a numerical algorithm. We show an application to a two dimensionalelastic structure. The method can also be applied to bending plates and shells.
