Serum Uric Acid Levels and Microalbuminuria in Mild Hypertensive Patients

  • Chapter
Purine and Pyrimidine Metabolism in Man X

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 486))

Conclusions

A low proportion of mild hypertensive patients, recently diagnosed in a primary care setting are microalbuminuric. These patients show a higher serum urate than normoalbuminuric hypertensive patients. The higher serum urate levels in microalbuminuric hypertensive patients may be due to insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, which may enhance renal urate reabsorption.
