Conclusions
The ability of F1C fimbriated bacteria to bind to the human urinary tract could be demonstrated by performing binding studies using several different cell lines as shown in table 1, and by performing direct binding assay using human bladder epithelial cell line RT112 as shown in Fig 1. These results further suggest that similar to the the P-, S-, and 987P- fimbriae of uropathogenicand enterotoxigenic E. coli4,5, F1C fimbriae of uropathogenic E. coli strains also mediate the binding of those strains to the glycolipid receptors on cell surfaces.
