Pitch angle control system is one of the important control techniques necessary to obtain maximum power from a wind turbine above its rated speed. In this research article, fractional order based proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controller is proposed for pitch angle control of wind turbine. Proposed FOPID controller is implemented using Fractional-Order Modeling and Control (FOMCON) toolbox in MATLAB/Simulink. Transient response of the proposed FOPID controller and a conventional PID controller is compared. Simulation results obtained shows the improvement in transient response parameters with FOPID controller.
