Data-sampling is essential for digitalized implementation of control strategies. Periodic data-sampling abstracts continuous-time systems at predetermined arithmetic time instants, and has been playing a central role in the fruitful literature of sampled-data control. Since all the sampling intervals are required to be equal and small enough to guarantee the “worst-case” performance, periodic sampled-data control may not be cost-effective for the systems subject to information constraints. This, to some extent, motivates the latest wave of research interest in event-triggered control.
