The 19th National Congress of the CPC stated that China’s economy has been transitioning from a phase of rapid growth to a stage of high-quality development. This is a pivotal stage for transforming China’s growth model, improving China’s economic structure and fostering new drivers of growth. This chapter looks at the measures and practices China has undertaken in the current period. It covers issues, such as the attempt to improve the quality of economic development, the “adjustment” of the economic structure, promoting new drivers for economic development and the nature of China’s economic integration into the world economy. In the process, the chapter assesses and attempts to predict trends in changing China’s economic development pattern.
