Abstract

The Flying Capacitor Multilevel Converter (FCMC) brings quite significant attention in the recent years. It is easier to extend the topology to a high number of levels when compared to other multilevel topology, namely the diode-clamped multilevel converter (DCMC). This is due to difficulties of DCMC for achieving capacitor voltage balance. On the other hand, the voltages in the capacitors of the FCMC can be con- trolled due to the availability of redundant switching states. The study of the FCMC with 5, 7, 9 and 11-levels are carried out. In order to get better performance of medium voltage (MV) and high power electric drive, the dv/dt and the Total Harmonic Distortions (THD) should be minimized by the introduction of more levels in the output voltage. The Phase-Shifted Carrier Pulse Width Modulation Technique (PSC-PWM) are used to control the Root Mean Square (RMS) output voltage. For more effective, the output voltage is mainly controlled by Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). This FLC is intended for different voltage levels of FCMC to Control the RMS output voltages. The simulation results shows the performance of RMS voltage and significant reduction of THD is controlled by FLC.
