Government Taxes and Spending
How America Compares offers data and analysis on an encyclopedic range of social indicators, comparing the United States with 17 other politically stable, economically affluent democracies. Occasionally, there are more global perspectives, but most of the book examines commonalities and contrasts among these advanced democracies. This chapter looks at the size of governments in these democracies, measured as government spending as a proportion of their GDP, at government revenues and debt. It also looks at the different priorities in government spending among the 18 democracies.
