Infections of the Spinal Cord

Infectious agents affecting the spinal cord were discussed in a prior chapter, so they will be touched on lightly here. Infectious myelitis must be distinguished from ADEM. Infectious myelitis involves direct microbial infection with tissue injury caused by the infecting agent or by the host immune response. ADEM occurs only due to the immune response in the post-infectious period.
