Design and Analysis of Universal-Filtered Multi-carrier (UFMC) Waveform for 5G Cellular Communications Using Kaiser Filter
Abstract
Currently, the 5G research is trying to address the existing OFDM-based LTE problems such as high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and spectral loss. Universal-filtered multi-carrier (UFMC) technique can be considered as a candidate waveform for 5G communications because it provides robustness against inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI) and suitable for low-latency scenarios. In this paper, Kaiser filter is used instead of standard Dolph–Chebyshev for UFMC-based waveform to provide better power spectrum and to avoid spectral leakage and is simulated using MATLAB software. A comparative study for Dolph–Chebyshev and Kaiser filters is performed, and the results are presented in this paper. The results show improvement in PSD and reduction in PAPR for UFMC with Kaiser-based window, in contrast to UFMC with Dolph–Chebyshev filter and conventional OFDM.
