Experimental Study on Performance of M30 Grade Concrete by Partial Replacement with Fly Ash and Granite Powder

Granite slabs are used as floorings for enhancing aesthetic of buildings. When these granite slabs are cut to the desired sizes and shapes, a fine powder is formed as by-product. Disposal of this fine powder is a serious concern. The fine granite powder is observed to have silica content and can be used as fine aggregate. It is a well-established fact that the use of fly ash when partially replaced with cement enhances the strength and workability of concrete. Being silica-rich, granite powder can be used as replacement of fine aggregate in making sustainable concrete. In the present work, the M30 grade concrete is casted by partial replacement of fine aggregate with granite powder and cement is partially replaced with Fly Ash. Granite powder is replaced in percentages of 0, 10, 15, 20, and 25 to that of fine aggregate. In addition to this 0, 10, 20, and 30 percentages of fly ash is also used as partial replace cement. For different percentages of replacement of granite and fly ash in concrete, the compressive strength is determined at 28 days. The results obtained show that the use of granite powder in addition to fly ash would improve the formation of C-S-H gel from excess silica reacting with calcium hydroxides in concrete which comprehend for increase in later stage strength.
