ONE-POINT ADVICE: Other Valve-Sparing Aortic Root Replacement Techniques

Abstract

The standard techniques for valve-sparing aortic root replacement (VSARR) are the aortic root remodeling method (hereinafter referred to as remodeling) proposed by Yacoub et al. [1] and the aortic valve reimplantation method (hereinafter referred to as reimplantation) advocated by David et al. [2]. These techniques are usually employed because they are safe and the long-term outcomes are favorable. However, both techniques also have disadvantages, such as the long duration of cardiac arrest due to their complexity; for example, they are problematic when performing simultaneous mitral valve replacement (MVR) and aortic arch replacement surgery in patients with Marfan syndrome.
