Abstract

This paper discusses factors of the pedestrian flows in two different underground malls by conducting multiple regression analysis with visibility measures based on space syntax theory and store proximity measures, etc. Both case studies are treated as a “coupled case” with regard to the directly neighboring spaces, i.e., the ground level sidewalks. They are separated into two complementary analyses and the results from both cases compared. In addition, this research will be examined as a “closed case,” limited exclusively to the underground mall area and compared with the coupled case.
