Abstract

Improving the efficiency of energy conversion systems (e.g., thermal power plants and vehicles) is increasingly important owing to growing concern regarding oil depletion and the environmental pollution resulting from byproducts of burning of fossil fuels. Currently, the rate of transforming useful output from primary energy resources is approximately 40% [95]. The rest is lost in operation or released as thermal energy.
