Gastrodiplomacy: Psychological Persuasion via National Cuisine

Abstract.

By targeting the public, especially the foreigners, public diplomacy has been practicing cunning programs to influence the public and to hold up national foreign policy in various matters. Gastrodiplomacy is a practice of sharing a nation’s culture through food. As a multiracial nation, Malaysia has its own potential of developing its soft power tool through national cuisine. The Government of Malaysia took complete action in cultivating Malaysia’s Gastrodiplomacy activities. The approach has become a soft power and creates tremendous opportunities for Malaysia develop its own nation brand.
