Manipur’s Tryst with Disaster Management Act, 2005

  • Nivedita P. Haran

The DM Act, 2005 has definitely led to some major structural changes in the management of disasters in most of the states in India. In the State of Manipur, the Disaster Management Department is now a separate administrative entity, the State Disaster Management Authority has been set up and the DM Policy framed at the state and the district levels. Now, at a time when the DM Act has completed its 10th anniversary, an assessment of its impact in the field and at the grass-root level has become necessary. There could not be a more opportune moment to do so.
