Accuracy Assessment of Continuous Glucose Monitoring Technology

Abstract

Good accuracy of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology is a prerequisite for its clinical utility to guide decisions on treatment regimens. This chapter mainly explains how to evaluate the accuracy of CGM technology and its monitoring results. This chapter first introduces the accuracy assessment methods commonly used in clinical practice; then describes the accuracy assessment method for CGM technology, including consensus error grid analysis and continuous error grid analysis; and introduces the criteria of “optimal accuracy” for evaluating CGM data. This chapter also presents the factors affecting the accuracy of CGM technology and puts forward specific approaches for addressing these challenges.
