Complications of CTO PCI and How to Manage and Prevent

Many special devices such as dedicated chronic total occlusion (CTO) wires, microcatheters, daughter catheters, tornus, intravascular ultrasound, and rotablators are currently used for the complete recanalization. Further, bigger guiding catheters are frequently used for stronger backup support for the aggressive recanalization. CTO lesion itself is frequently associated with heavily calcified, dense, and hard tissue. All of these components are associated with higher incidence of complications as compared to usual percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
