The Alkaline Phosphatase System in the Pig

  • H. Dinklage

Starch gel electrophoresis studies of the alkaline phosphatase polymorphism were conducted in pigs using the procedure of Gahne (1966, 1967 ), The following results were obtained:
  1. (1)

In all piglets up to 8 weeks of age immediately behind the insertion line there is a fraction which cannot be found in adult animals.

  2. (2)

Independent of the animal’s age there were lilac coloured fractions of varying intensity below the yellow coloured albumins. An animal never showed more than one or two of these fractions.
