Serum Amylase Isozymes in French Charolais Cattle

Summary

The presented report constitutes part of the research on the blood traits of French Charolais cattle. Altogether 532 imported animals were tested. The serum samples of 30 North American Charolais were tested for comparison. Gene frequencies for AmA, AmB, and AmC were estimated from the phenotypes, assuming that the serum amylase isozymes were controlled by multiple codominant alleles at a single autosomal locus. The gene frequencies of amylase isozymes in French Charolais were significantly different from Holstein-Friesian and Aberdeen Angus. Serum amylase types may be added to blood groups for parentage tests.
