Ultrasonic Inspection of Rocker-Arm Pad Inserts

Abstract

The inspection of critical flaws in structural ceramic components using ultrasonic nondestructive testing is done by correlating the defect characteristics and the measured ultrasonic echo parameters. The best conditions for the inspection of a rocker-arm pad insert (Si3N4) by a high frequency(10 – 100 MHz) ultrasonic immersion pulse-echo technique were determined in order to provide an improved method for inspection of this component during production.
