Industrial Coatings: Application and Curing Methods

Chapter

Abstract

With current coating systems it is essential for paint technologists to understand the various application, pretreatment and curing methods available in order to obtain the maximum benefit and economy from the coating. For example, whilst it might be preferred to coat appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines with an automatic electrostatic system, a complete system may cost in the order of $60000 to $250000, and this system would often have production capacity far in excess of demand. Therefore, some manufacturers utilising conventional hand spray guns or semi-automatic electrostatic spray units will always be found. Whilst these methods may be outdated and consume more paint, the end product is still quite satisfactory.
