Abstract

Painting is the most common method of preventing the corrosion of mild steel which is the most widely used material of construction. Much of industry’s plant, equipment and machinery is made of mild steel ; examples include building frames, rolled steel joists (RSJ’s), purlins, storage tanks, pipelines, structural steel generally, bridges and ships. Paint coatings are the only economic method of preventing rust and consequent deterioration, and at the same time providing a decorative appearance.
