Abstract

Leukocytes attracted and emigrating from the intravascular blood stream to an injured tissue site elaborate various biologically active trace components. The objective of this work is the isolation in ponderable amounts and characterization of so far chemically undefined biologically active cell-derived substances governing cellular orientation, locomotion and ‘social’ behaviour of different leukocyte and other dividing cell types which as tertiary messengers of tissue injury effect and regulate the multiple steps and sequences of biological functions involved in tissue repair at local and systemic cellular and humoral levels. Hence, we establish methods under sterile conditions for isolation and culture of different viable peripheral leukocyte types on large (kg amount) scales.
