Effect of synovial tissue on the matrix of articular cartilage in organ culture (Abstract)

Abstract

The experiments were made on the articular tissues of the metacarpophalangeal joints of young pigs. In organ culture the synovial tissue caused the breakdown of cartilage matrix1 and inhibited the synthesis of its sulphated proteoglycan2.
