It is largely unknown which of the biological and biochemical activities of specifically activated macrophages are shared by young bone marrow derived macrophages and which ones are acquired after activation by lym-phokines. We therefore studied the activities of in vitro differentiating bone marrow macrophages and their ability to respond to lymphokines at various time points.
