Experimental Inhibition of E-rosette forming cells by in vitro incubation with adenosine, theophylline and verapamil
The E-rosette formation is a dynamic, energy-dependent property of human T lymphocytes. There is much evidence that critical metabolic processes such as oxidative phosphorylation1, microfilament function2, protein and nucleic acid synthesis3, glycolysis4, calcium intake2 and intracellular nucleotide levels5 are involved in this lymphocyte function. Therefore, the E-rosette formation may be inhibited in vivo as well as in vitro by any event that modifies one or more of these metabolic variables. It is well known that elevated intracellular levels of cAMP inhibit the E-rosette formation whereas elevated levels of cGMP augment the number of E-rosette forming cells5,6.
