Effect of Intraduodenal Bile on Myoelectrical Activity of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract and Sphincter of Oddi

Findings from a recent report suggest that infusion of biliary-pancreatic juice into the human duodenum initiates premature migratory motor complexes (MMC’s) in fasted human volunteers.(1) The aim of this study was to determine whether intraduodenal injection of bile or bile diversion affected myoelectric activity of the upper gastrointestinal tract and sphincter of Oddi in unanesthetized, fasted opossums.
