Abstract

This discussion of photochemistry of vic-polyketones will be concerned mainly with the occurrence of α-cleavage as a primary process of their excited states. This reaction, sometimes referred to as the “Norrish Type I Reaction”, involves homolytic fission of one of the bonds to the -CO group in an excited state of a ketone and produces two free radical centers.
