Abstract

Several symbiotic stars are characterized by UV spectral signatures which are similar, in several aspects, to those observed in the broad-line region of Seyfert galaxies. We suggest to consider the symbiotic stars as a convenient laboratory for the study of the spectroscopic mechanisms which are at work in Seyfert 1 nuclei.
