Abstract

A new estimate of the relative luminosity of the hidden nucleus of M82 compared to the disk is given. This estimate is a factor of 10 higher than a previous one; the very blue colour of the scattered halo light can now be explained. An approximate conversion to absolute luminosity shows that this high nuclear luminosity is also compatible with some of the models of Rieke et al (1980).
