Cost Implications of Decentralized Testing — A Laboratorian’s View
In the last decade a worldwide trend away from decentralized laboratory services towards central units has been observed in most larger hospitals. While it has been generally believed that centralization considerably improves the overall efficiency, the development of new technologies has recently brought the possibility of decentralization to the forefront of scientific discussion. Clinical chemists must therefore reassess whether centralization provides the efficiency expected.
