Organization and Management in the Decentralized Laboratory
Management is defined as the organization of a properly functioning enterprise to achieve defined goals. In many ways the problems of organization and management in the decentralized laboratory constitute a relatively simple topic to deal with, certainly at a theoretical level. The problems arising do not differ qualitatively from those in the large centralized laboratory: they differ only in a matter of scale. In both instances the aim is to deliver the correct result for the appropriate patient at the right time. Some may say that this approach is naive but are they justified in such an assertion? In both centralized and decentralized laboratories, one is, after all, dealing with patient samples, technical operators, technical methods, quality control, laboratory results and their interpretation.
