The Need for Decentralized Testing — A Patient’s View
I am a 35-year-old housewife, mother of three children (two of them three-year-old twins), a part-time teacher, and I am married to a doctor. I have had diabetes for six years and have tried six different insulin pumps but at present use the Novo-pen because my pump is out of order. I measure my blood sugar at least three times a day, and often more if I feel it necessary or want to try out a different treatment and change the amount of insulin. I use keto-sticks whenever the blood glucose is above 16-18 mmol/L and feel totally responsible for my own treatment. I regard the clinician and the general practitioner as my supporters and advisers.
