Abstract

Measurements of the mass-to-light ratios of galaxies are crucial to a proper understanding of galaxy dynamics, dark matter distributions, and the general matter content of the universe. We report on results of a program to measure the change of the M/L ratio with redshift. Since the evolution of the M/L can be parameterized as \(\textup{ln} M/L(z)- \textup{ln} M/L(0)= -0.83z(1 + q_0 +1/z_{\textup{form}})\), measurements of the evolution of the M/L ratio give valuable information about the epoch of galaxy formation.
