Hepatitis D: epidemiology, prevention and treatment

  • Edouard Kurstak

The incubation period of hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection is believed to overlap that of hepatitis B virus but hasn’t been conclusively defined to date. Studies with chimpanzees do, however, indicate that HBV/HDV coinfection has an incubation period ranging from four to twenty weeks while HDV superinfection of HBV carrier animals occurs three to six weeks after inoculation (Rizzetto et al., 1980, 1982).
